1 in 5 Teenagers Experience Mental Illness

1 in 5 teenagers experience mental illness.
Mental health issues such as generalized anxiety, social phobias and depression are common among teenagers.
It may be hard for a parent to distinguish between regular adolescent behavior and a possible mental health issue because some of the symptoms can look similar.
Examples of symptoms to look out for include sudden changes in school performance, mood swings, isolation from friends and family, extreme lethargy or hyperactivity, difficulty focusing or concentrating, uncharacteristic irritability or anger, drug or alcohol use, or persistent feelings of hopelessness or sadness.
If any of these symptoms persist and disrupt regular activities, it may be time to seek professional help from your teens pediatrician or a mental health expert.
Parents, tune in with us every 4th Wednesday of every month where we address mental health awareness. Click the link in our bio to register for the FREE workshops or join us via our FACEBOOK live page.
