KEYS 2 LIFE

Keys 2 Life is an evidence-based life skills and music-mentoring program; designed to encourage, educate and empower youth through key principles in life and in music. We are able to accomplish this mission through relevant principle driven music lessons, engaging discussions, introspective journaling, and individual monitoring. Those who are consistent and commit to this program will be enriched socially, academically, spiritually, psychologically, and of course musically. Many people fail to understand the significant role music plays on the attitude and psyche of young minds. A study conducted in 2000 by The College Entrance Examination Board, Princeton, New Jersey, reported that students taking courses in music performance and music appreciation scored 53 points higher on the verbal and 39 points higher on the math portions of the SAT than students with no arts participation. Our goal is not just to cultivate youth academically but also to help them apply the necessary self-regulatory skills needed to be successful and overcome the many obstacles in life.

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE

Keys 2 Life is facilitated by a production team that has over 25 years of combined experience in music production, engineering, and performance. Brooklyn born poet, MC, musical arts teacher, and mentor Mahogany Jones is a former four-time champion on B.E.T’s “Freestyle Friday’s” battle rap competition. Her skill not only captured the attention of many music greats, but also the hearts and minds of hundreds of young girls seeking a positive role model to venerate. Underground hip-hop producer and Youth Worker Ron Lee Jr. was birthed into a musically inclined family. His experience in the Hip-Hop culture and expertise in digital music production will not only provide participants with the latest music industry techniques, but more importantly, the life application skills needed to navigate and avoid the many obstacles that prevent youth from succeeding
