Trauma-Informed Parenting Workshop

TRAUMA INFORMED PARENTING WORKSHOP

The Trauma-Informed Parenting Workshop seeks to educate and inform adult participants on the impacts of trauma on the development and behavior of children, while also ensuring that families know how to access timely, quality, and effective trauma-focused interventions and resources which support resilience, long-term healing and recovery. The curriculum uses evidence-based materials and training from the International Trauma Training Institute (ITTI) and The National Child Traumatic Stress Network. These trainings have been used in each of the categories (parents, educators, professionals), and have a proven impact on knowledge levels as well as mental health outcomes. Parents are provided with strategies to respond effectively to children impacted by trauma by addressing both their emotional as well as their behavioral challenges.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS TRAINING

Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Parents improve skills needed to identify whether their children are exhibiting symptoms that indicate either Severe Emotionally Disturbed or Serious Mental Illness, and provide information on the steps they can take to address their children's mental health challenges. The sessions also cover Aggression Replacement Training (ART) and Suicide Prevention Training. These offerings will provide parents with more tools to address various forms of mental health challenges.

PARENTAL ADVISORY TRAINING

Our Parental Advisory Training is a 90-minute interactive, multi-media session that exposes the negative effect that the mass media is having on our children. Through powerful imagery, video, and engaging discussions, we address the root cause of adolescent risk behaviors such as substance abuse, violence, teen pregnancy, fatherlessness, bullying, and underage drinking. Many people fail to understand the significant role music, movies, and the mass media plays on the psyche of young minds. By design, the catchy lyrics, catch phrases, and subliminal images enter our children’s subconscious, and before they know it, they’re walking around participating in unhealthy and potentially dangerous behavior. Parents, teachers, youth workers, and community leaders leave this training encouraged and equipped with the tools needed to not only effectively communicate with their children, but also counter the potentially deadly influence that music, movies, mainstream and social media has on our children.
