Techniques With Your Young Person

Parents, please use these techniques with your young person. The example provided is with a 6-year-old but these techniques even work with teenagers.
1. Acknowledge their behavior
2. Ask the “why” for the behavior aka get context for the content
3. Listen to the response without judgment
4. Be Empathetic, place yourself in their shoes (remember what it was like when you were their age). You can even share a time or a story.
5. Let them know what they are feeling is normal
6. Remind them of the standard and expectations on how to express themselves
7. Teach them the proper way to express themselves
8. Give them the grace they need to meet the expectation.
We hope you find these techniques useful.
