Parents, Did You Know?

Michigan does not mandate sex education, but it does mandate HIV/AIDS education. If sex education is provided, it must stress abstinence, include information on the importance of sex only within marriage, negative outcomes of teen sex, avoiding coercion, and healthy decision-making, and be medically accurate and age-appropriate.
HIV/AIDS education must stress abstinence and be medically accurate and age-appropriate. Parents must receive notice of both sex and HIV/AIDS education and may opt-out of both.
Parents, make sure you are aware of what your child is being taught.
