How It Was During Puberty For Us
Parents, we often hear you say “𝘐 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘰. 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘣𝘦𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘺?” 🤔
The first thing we try to remember is, how it was during puberty for us. Remember what you needed and desired from your parents during that time.
Yes, certain behaviors need to be addressed, but do so calmly minus the negative emotions (yelling, irritation, etc.) This is where your great communication skills come in. Acknowledge what you’re seeing, but don’t assign blame or act irrationally. 🙅
You know what to do, it just becomes harder to understand our teens because you’ve gotten older and forgotten what it was like to be a teenager. That specific time can be weird and traumatizing, so we’ve subconsciously forgotten about it. In doing that, we are not assisting our teens like we wish to.
𝘓𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰. 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘨𝘰 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳. 𝘉𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘦𝘥.
