My Mother’s Words of Affirmation
In chapter 20 of my book Cry Like A Man, I share this beautiful moment of my mother leaving me words of affirmation so that I would no longer live with the guilt of my teenage years. When she developed dementia, I quickly realized that I could not take care of her the way she deserved by just being a masculine man—I had to become a comprehensive man of the Most High. Yes I was strong when I had to negotiate the best price for her medications and rebuke bill collectors for their unethical tactics. However, I was also tender when she needed to cry, patient when she couldn’t remember and loving when her dementia had her angry at me. Happy Mother’s Day Momma. Thank you for leaving me these words of affirmation that I still need to hear. I love you and I will see you again. #MissMom #CryLikeAMan

YOU CAN’T DO EVERYTHING
If I did not pick the thing I “should do,” I would have stayed there all night trying to complete everything on my “To Do” list.

Avoid the very appearance of evil
Just because you endured and overcame a temptation, life-threatening situation or relationship—does not mean you are to go back to it! For it’s written, “avoid the very appearance of evil.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:22
I DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU ARE BUT I WILL FIND YOU AND I WILL LOVE YOU
There’s always a “cause and effect” to every action! I tell you the truth—I’ve witnessed “discipline” drive boys away but I’ve never seen encouragement fail to bring them back.
