Only About 50% of Teen Mothers Receive a High School Diploma

𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘋𝘪𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸…? 🤔⁣

Teen pregnancy and childbearing are associated with increased social and economic costs. This causes immediate and long-term effects on teen parents and their children.⁣

𝘛𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴. Only about 50% of teen mothers receive a high school diploma by 22 years of age, whereas approximately 90% of women who do not give birth during adolescence graduate from high school. ⁣

Although this is probably one of the last things you want to think about as a parent, especially if you have a teen, making sure your kids are safe and smart when it comes to this particular topic is so important! Having these conversations with our teens shouldn’t be an uncomfortable thing, it’s part of being a parent! By opening up and creating a safe space for certain conversations to happen, we are letting our children know that it’s okay to ask questions and that we are here for them!

It’s our job as parents to make sure that our children understand the effect that their decisions can have on their lives. Do you find it tricky navigating these types of conversations with your teens? Feel free to DM us and we would love to give you some guidance on how to go about it!

Do Not Overlook The Daily Trauma

May 27, 2020

I completely understand the sense of urgency as it relates to getting our children back in school. However, I pray in the rush to do so, we do not overlook the daily trauma their minds will endure due to wearing masks for 6 hours, social distancing from friends, no gym, eating lunch alone, daily temperature checks, etc. ‬
