Over Protective Parents

We are continuing our “𝘖𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴” series! We’ve been getting lots of questions on what to do as an overprotective parent, so, here are a few tips to help you out! 👏⁣

1️⃣. 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬. Talk to other parents in your circle or community whose parenting style you admire. But remember, there’s no such thing as a perfect parent, and no single style of parenting is best for all kids in every situation.⁣

2️⃣. 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Keep the lines of communication open with your child, regardless of their age. Be open to ideas and willing to hear out their wants and wishes – even if those are different from your own.⁣

3️⃣. 𝐆𝐨 𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 (𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐤𝐢𝐝𝐬). Give yourself a breather. As a hovering parent, you might enjoy the relaxation a bit! If your toddler is experimenting on the playground, let it happen and allow the consequences to follow. As long as your kid is safe, you can fight your instinct to shut things down and see what happens! ⁣

4️⃣. 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥. If you’re having a problem breaking away from your overprotective ways, seek out professional help. Therapy can be a great way to tap into your true motivations and find better coping mechanisms.⁣

We hope you enjoyed this parenting series! If you have any other questions, comments, or ideas, leave ‘em below!👇
