PURGING PASSIVITY

Today I noticed a father trying to teach his son how to ride a bike. In his frustration the father yells “don’t be scared!” As he and his son walk by to give it another try—I encouraged his father and then said to his son, “Good job! Yes falling on concrete hurts and although it’s okay to be scared, don’t let the fear of falling rule you.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I learned over the years teaching at the Cave of Adullam that it’s truly feckless to condemn a boy for being scared because EVERY man will feel fear. In the words of Nelson Mandela “The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers it.”
