6 Signs You May Be An Overprotective Parent!
Yesterday, we talked about the effects of being an overprotective parent. We received several comments wanting to know what an overprotective parent looks like, so

๐๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ต๐ณ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ญ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ค๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ช๐ค๐ฆ๐ด – If youโre making decisions for your teen without allowing them to think through the options themselves. Of course we can advise them, but ultimately, we want to encourage our teens to be independent thinkers with their own confident opinions.โฃ

2๏ธโฃ. ๐๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ญ๐ต๐ฆ๐ณ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ง๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฎ ๐ง๐ข๐ช๐ญ๐ถ๐ณ๐ฆ – It can be tempting to step in and โrescueโ your teen from a bad grade or injured ego. Teens are resilient, only if we give them the opportunity to rebound. Success is great, but teens wonโt truly thrive until they learn to overcome day-to-day failures.โฃ

3๏ธโฃ. ๐๐ท๐ฆ๐ณ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ข๐ค๐ต๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ง๐ข๐ช๐ญ๐ถ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด – If youโre enraged over the sporadic bad grade or dismayed when your teen gets rejected from an opportunity, you need to take a deep breath and be like Elsa – let it go!โฃ

4๏ธโฃ. ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ช๐ฏ๐ซ๐ถ๐ณ๐บ – Do you warn your teen to watch their fingers every time they shut a cabinet door or gasp when they occasionally trip over their own two feet? As long as a teen isnโt in danger, you should try to bite your tongue from time to time, or the training wheels may never come off.โฃ

5๏ธโฃ. ๐๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ด๐ฆ ๐ง๐ฐ๐ค๐ถ๐ด ๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐ข๐ค๐ฉ๐ช๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต – If youโre so focused on your teensโs accomplishments that you donโt take the time to celebrate them, you (and potentially your teen) are missing out. Focusing on measurable achievements could be detrimental to your teenโs mental well-being.โฃ
