We can see the side-eyes and hear the sighs now lol. 🫣 Hear us out, we know they are not adults quite yet, but adolescence is the transition from childhood to adulthood.
In treating them like responsible adults, you give them the opportunity to make lots of decisions and live with the consequences of those decisions. As parents we want to control as much as we can, but in trying to do so, we can sometimes do more damage than good.
The more control you relinquish now, the more independence they gain now. That’s the self-control that they will use to make good decisions in establishing themselves as adults. 👏
The happiest teens are responsible teens, who operate under real-world rules that inspire self-control rather than under the parental rules and control that may encourage rebellion.
Do you agree?! Let’s continue the conversation in the comments!👇
Suffering In Silence
Men are taught to suffer in silence, and as a result, relationships are failing all across the world. This is an edited clip of my time on the Mel Robbins Show—we tag team trauma to help a husband break free from emotional incarceration and save his marriage!
Release The Trauma So That We Can Live Again
I cried watching this clip because for decades, I suppressed my emotions—trying to be a “man” instead of a huMAN. In my book #CryLikeAMan, I share how my era taught men that crying was a sign of weakness.
WHEN A MAN IS FREE TO CRY— HE IS FREE TO LOVE
I will never forget my wedding day—especially when my best man Gabe Green jokingly threatened that he would hit me if I started crying when my soon to be wife (Nicole) walked down the isle.
Congrats Kaden, Good Work!

Seek to get healed from what hurts in you, before you unintentionally hurt your children
As a wounded young father in my early 30’s, I probably would have demeaningly called my son “lazy” for not holding his suit while we waited in line to purchase it.
Suppression Leads To Depression
Suppression leads to depression—so take off the mask and #CryLikeAMan—transparency liberates the soul!

Fight To Be Human
“I’m always wrong when I say how I feel, even when I am right! I feel like a damn robot programmed to only take care of my wife, my kids, my siblings and my job, but [expletive] myself and how I feel! Real talk I feel better off dead!”
Mastering Your Emotions to Save Your Marriage!
In this short clip from a #CryLikeAMan conversation with Van Lathan— my wife and I transparently share a few things we’ve learned that has kept us together for 21 years!
It’s A Confirmation That The LORD Trusts Me
