The 3A’s Of Self-Esteem Building
Parents, đ Self-Esteem or self-worth is more than how you feel about yourself. It’s also about how capable you are to meet life’s challenges and feel worthy of happiness.
You can build self-esteem in your child/teen by developing three “A’s”. Affirmation, Achievement and Affirmation.
1ď¸âŁ Affirmation: Affirm your child/teen regularly and positively by simply verbalizing how proud you are of them, and how much you appreciate them. Notice their effort and let them know you believe in them when they claim to be capable of achieving something.
2ď¸âŁ Affection: Show your child/teen you care by giving them physical affection like hugs and kisses. Spend quality time with them, doing activities that are fun for both of you. Show them youâre interested in their thoughts and feelings by listening carefully and validating them.
3ď¸âŁ Achievement: Encourage your child/teen to set achievable goals and support them in the process. Help them break big tasks down into smaller steps, and cheer them on along the way.
These three As will help your child/teen to view themselves more positively and foster their self-esteem.
