Warning Signs Of Teen Dating Violence
Parents, š we know romantic relationships between teenagers are incredibly complicated. The undertaking of a relationship, very often, requires more maturity than most teens have developed. These relationships are more likely to be riddled with problems including communication, jealousy, and selflessness.
As a result, teenagers are more likely to be involved in relationships that are unhealthy, violent, and/or abusive. If you are a teenager involved in a romantic relationship it is important to understand the behaviors that may point to an unhealthy and/or abusive relationship.
Keep an eye out for these warning signs of teen dating violence, regardless of how unlikely you think it is that your child would be in an unhealthy relationship:
1ļøā£ Excessive jealousy or controlling behavior
2ļøā£ Isolation from family members or friends
3ļøā£ Humiliation, ridicule, or name-calling
4ļøā£ Invasions of privacy
5ļøā£ False accusations or gas-lighting
6ļøā£ Excessive gift-giving and other grand gestures, also known as love bombing
7ļøā£ Excessive anger or rage, often unexpected
8ļøā£ Damaging or destroying personal property
9ļøā£ Showing up unannounced
1ļøā£0ļøā£ Monitoring activities through their social media, cell phone, or stalking
1ļøā£1ļøā£ Physical or sexual violence of any kind
One important thing to know is that abusive relationships can happen to anyone, regardless of their age, gender, race, or sexual orientation. It can happen to kids who do well in school just as easily as it can happen to kids who struggle.
